现代人和纹章

在过去近一千多年西方历史之中，纹章的诞生和应用是意味深长和影响深远，直到现代它的依然是应用，人们对它的兴趣似乎有增无减。尽管封建制没没、骑士的工作也由专业军队所，但纹章的制度，仍然是很有系统的运作着，英国及美国都有官方的纹章学院。纹章并不是美观就可以，它其实是一套的符号象徽，也是一套语言，有它的法则，它的基本作用就是让人们在远远一看，就可以分别出纹章有者的身份。纹章在选用的位置、色彩、设计、所用的图腾、箴言、盾牌、头盔、斗冻篷及锦冠各个不同的设计元素，都是有它的代表性。

读者可知道，单由头盔的设计就可分别出皇室成员、爵士们头戴的金冠也是分公、候、伯、子、男的爵级设计、贵族出身骑士的盾牌上花纹可以分出谁是长子次子、还可以看出其所属的父系家族呢!....原来，纹章的设计就是包括了上述所有东西，因应不同的阶级有用不同的组合，在中世纪这阶级分明、上君下臣的宫庭中、在军中骑士及属下都是用这一套纹章，为了各阶级各有自己的特性、以及运用制度，不是随意运用。

英国的纹章学院

英国的纹章学院是历史最攸久的，运作正如中世纪的一样。它们的工作是记录、管理、审批及制作纹章，贵族及知名家族和他们的后代都是纹章的持有人，纹章不单是饰徽，也是宗谱、名誉及功绩的记录，可以说是纹章有效及合法性见证人、也是历史的见证，这一切由纹章学院为官方储存处，它的记录包括录各地纹章学院官方拷贝。大家可能很惊讶今天更广泛使用纹章。现代纹章的主子不再是封建主、而是很多国家组织、各或官民及商业机构所用的纹章，并不是纯是美术设计，全都是正式向纹章学会申请并批核后才可以正式应用。就以『香港医学会会徽』为列，是香港少数拥有盾牌、头盔设计的纹章，那是1974年医学会向英国纹章院申请纹计设计专利，75年成功批核，76年采用为会徽。

问题:某家族姓氏用同一纹章吗?

不。这是没有一个家族专用的纹章。有些家族徽像是纹章，但它并不是纹章代表了众多的意义。其实如前述纹章是代表个人、所以在相同的家族及姓氏的子孙经常拥有纹章的完全不同。有时候纹章的设计上相类似是因为，纹章的拥有人，合法地承继了父系的纹章，如两大家族运婚而同时保留了两方部份设计也是常有，所以盾牌图案有部份是相似但不一样，这纹章是代表个人背景而不是全家族。

没有。纹章的官方描述作为红色，那红色就不太近橙色、如是蓝也应不太轻，以免混淆，它的配色是紫色或者粉红色的，决定拥有者决定。

14世纪开始骑士的比武大赛十分流行，骑士不单止有美丽和实用的盔甲，贵族及有钱的骑士都把自己打扮得特出，以衬托出其武艺超群，马有马甲及马衣、为了减少太阳直照的高温，骑士也会在背上加上斗篷、铁头盔上加上围巾，它们往往混成一体风中飘扬，用的多为和盾体呼应的主色，所以十分所以耀目，头上围巾是为「锦」、如是皇室或爵爷就是「冠」合称「锦冠」。他们头上通常也有木雕或皮制的象徽瑞兽或瑞物，这就称为「舵」。虽舶16世纪后比武大赛没落、但三者一直保留用在纹章上。在很多纹章的设计中，有骑士头盔，其头上有锦冠、皇室就用皇冠。及舵、并有斗篷在四处环绕，三者构图案甚美丽也十分抢眼，今很多人误以为这就是纹章的主要部份。但这是纹章的一个设计单元。

纹章学是一门专门学问，它是研究用在识别个人、家族、组织、社团、学院、国家等等的等符号、象征图案、色彩等等的运用 。
